The Nylon You Didn't Know
Just a little lesson on what you are wearing.
The most commonly used yarn is nylon. Nylon is a synthetic polymer that was introduced by Dupont in 1935. This was first used in bristle toothbrushes. There are many different kinds of nylon which all produce a different feeling and have different functions. It was first intended to be a synthetic replacement for silk. This eventually substituted silk in products such as parachutes, flak vests and vehicle tires during World War II. Nylon is now used in clothing, carpets, pipes, musical strings, tents, rope, etc. Ponder that as you wear our incredibly comfortable garments.
